Toybota-An RC car turned into an RC boat
This is Toybota! An RC car that has been modified to be an RC boat, it is named in honor of the Toyota pick up truck that was converted to an amphibious car on the British show Top Gear.
The idea was to convert an RC car easily to an RC boat so that you don’t have to buy both but if you still want both then you can easily and quickly convert between the two. Parts snap on and off so that it can be converted back to an RC car easily, see video of it working below and how to make the parts waterproof here.

Model originally printed on: Makerbot Replicator 2X
Recommended print settings:
There are 18 parts in total and all of them can be printed in ABS/PLA (the orange paddles were NinjaFlex as I though this was necessary to fit over the existing tyres but it wasn't). The parts were then treated in a vapour bath to ensure they were waterproof (see our blog on how to do that in the description below) to protect the electronics and make sure Toybota floated. All parts were printed with 3 layers and 10% infill, extra layers were necessary as the acetone melts a portion of the outer layers.
The two hull components and stabilisers were then glued together using araldite to ensure that they were solidly connected, the water guards, paddle, rudder wheels, roof all snap fit onto each other. The RC car then sits on the chassis and the roof is put on to protect the electronics.
